Camouflage 90012 - Los Angeles

2017

Camouflage 90012, an expansive outdoor mural created by UNO in 2017, is located at N Spring St, Los Angeles, California.

As a site-specific work, it applies the artist's distinctive pattern-based language to articulate a visual dialogue with the surrounding urban architecture and the city's palette. The surface is animated by a rigorous composition of contrasting motifs, including polka dots, pied de poule and a repeating motif of the face of GüNTER within classic wallpaper patterns.

The title's reference to the postal code 90012 serves to deeply embed the piece within its immediate geographic and cultural context, thus highlighting the interplay between the universally recognizable visual vocabulary of street art and the particular identity of the community.
